At Nova Taekwon-Do, the Student Oath is much more than a formal recitation—it is the very heart of our character development program. This oath serves as a moral compass, guiding every student’s actions both inside the dojang and throughout their daily lives. It reflects our shared commitment to grow into people of integrity, strength, and respect.
We believe that true martial artists are shaped not only by their physical skills but by the values they live by. The Student Oath is our promise to uphold these values and to use our training as a force for good in the world.
This is a solemn promise to live by the five core principles that form the foundation of our martial art:
Courtesy – Treating others with politeness and respect
Integrity – Being honest and responsible for our actions
Perseverance – Persisting through challenges with patience
Self-Control – Mastering our emotions and impulses
Indomitable Spirit – Standing firm for what is right, no matter the odds
By embodying these tenets, students build strong character and become true martial artists, committed not only to their own growth but to the wellbeing of those around them.
Respect is the cornerstone of learning and growth. This part of the oath reminds students to value the knowledge, experience, and guidance of those who lead them—whether instructors, senior students, teachers, parents, or community leaders.
Respect in the dojang creates a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Beyond training, it nurtures humility and appreciation for others that strengthens relationships in all areas of life.
With great skill comes great responsibility. This vow teaches students that Taekwon-Do is never to be used for aggression or bullying. Our techniques are tools for self-defence and protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
True strength is shown through compassion, control, and the wisdom to avoid unnecessary conflict. We train not to fight, but to stand firm and act justly when the need arises.
This powerful commitment calls students to be active citizens who stand up for what is right. It means defending those who are vulnerable, speaking out against injustice, and living with fairness and courage every day.
Taekwon-Do teaches us that strength is not only physical but moral. By standing up for freedom and justice, students contribute to building a better society.
The ultimate goal of our training is peace—within ourselves, our communities, and the world. This part of the oath inspires students to live with discipline, respect, and integrity so that they may positively impact those around them.
At Nova Taekwon-Do, we believe every student has the potential to make a difference. Together, one student at a time, we work toward a more peaceful, just, and compassionate world.
The Student Oath is not just words—it’s a lifelong commitment. At Nova Taekwon-Do, we encourage all our students, young and old, to reflect on this pledge regularly and to let it guide their actions both on and off the mats.
Whether you’re a beginner just starting your journey or an advanced student preparing for your next promotion, the values expressed in this oath are the heart of what it means to be part of our community.
Become part of Nova Taekwon-Do and embrace the path of a true martial artist—where skill meets character, and strength serves peace.
